Fecal incontinence, also known as anal incontinence or incontinentia alvi, means that you cannot fully control the passage of stool or gas. Symptoms can range from small traces in your underwear to complete involuntary bowel movements. It is more common than many think and affects women more frequently, often becoming a real issue after menopause. Many women hesitate to talk about their symptoms out of embarrassment, even with their doctor.
